SLAB BUILDING WITH SLUMP MOLD

  • wedge clay

  • flatten with slab roller

  • pick out a dish to put the slab on

  • place slab on top of dish

  • press it on

  • cut off all extra on the sides

  • smooth with a sponge

  • set it out to dry

  • use blow dryer when it is not dry enough

  • pick out a design on pintrest

  • ask sub to go to library to print it out

  • come back and use a pen to trace the outline onto the clay

  • get underglaze colors

  • paint the flower and put to be fired

  • glaze

  •  fire agian

I was unsure with how this project would turn out, but it ended up being one of my favorite things I have made. I thought it was really cool that the pen drew straight on to the clay. I chose the flower design because it reminds me of the flowers my mom grows in our garden. If I was going to make  another one I would start out with more clay. I had enough because the was extra on the top but I couldn't figure out a way to make a slab big enough.

SGRAFIFTO

  • wedge clay

  • use a rolling pin to make a thick flat slab

  • cut out a circle

  • smooth with sponge

  • dry with blowdryer

  • paint with pink underglaze

  • dry with blow dryer

  • find a design on Pinterest

  • carve that design

  • put to be fired, fire

  • clear glaze, fire

Originally I had thought of it as a good coaster gift, but I love it so much I am using it as room decor. I don't know if there is very much I would change . This is definitely something I would make again in a new color or with a new design.

COIL BUILDING

  • wedge clay

  • cut into a pieces

  • make the pieces into worms

  • cut the worms into short pieces

  • make some sprials

  • add them to the bowl

  • add balls where I think space needs to be filled

  • and add swiggles when there is to many spirals next to eachother

I do not have a firing process for this piece because I came into class and it was out drying and it had completely crumbled. I was really disappointed because this piece was really fun to make and I think it would have turned out really well. I don't know what I would have used it for though. Next time I would put cornstarch on the inside and make put a slab on the inside so the coils had something to stick to.

RELIEF CARVING

  • wedge clay

  • use a rolling pin to make a really thick slab

  • cut into a circle with an edge so it looks like a shell

  • map out indents so it looks like a spiral

  • carve out the indents

  • make sure the lines separating them are curved defining the sprial

  • smooth with sponge

  • fire

  • use jungle gems to paint so it has a natural painted effect

  • fire

  • clear glaze

  • fire

  • done!

I found this design on Pinterest and I thought it was really fun. I also liked it because I thought I could find a good purpose. I am using it right now as a earing holder! I think projects like these are my favorites because it is something I can display in my room and be proud of while also serving a purpose. If I were to make this again one thing I might do differently is make the indents smaller so it looked more like a shell. However I am happy with it the way it is because it can hold more earnings this way.

SLAB BUILDING WITH DARTS

  • wedge clay

  • put through slab roller

  • cut into a cup shaped rectangle

  • score and slip together

  • pinch four corners

  • cut out triangles in the corner

  • score and slip together

  • go back to slab roller with a little clay

  • cut out a square a little smaller than the bottom of the cup

  • score and slip the square and the cup together

  • fire

  • put on biskware shelf

  • when we get back from break I want to paint it blue and add little lavender flowers clear glaze and fire agian

I made this piece when the sub was here and she was super helpful. One thing I wish I would've done a little differently is making a bigger square at the bottom so it did not get as smashed in. Another thing I would have done is smooth it out more. When it came out of the kilm it was a little bumpy. I also made this really recently so I did not have time to glaze it yet. I think I will give it to my mom as a flower vase.
