MONSTER

  • wedge clay

  • make two pinch pots and combine them

  • make them tall so its more like a oval

  • put holes in each side of the pinch pot  (on the bottom large hold and on the top small hole)

  • make two more pinch pots and combine them small hole in the bottom

  • attach the two circles together

  • make a large worm for the tail

  • put a piece of clay through the slab roller and cut out triangles

  • score and slip the the triangles to the worm score and slip the worm to the back  of the body

  • then curl the tail in a swirl

  • make more worms for the arms and cut out dots to score and slip to the arms to make tentacles score and slip those evenly on each side of the body

  • take one worm and wave it then score and slip it to the head

  • make three dots for the eyes score and slip them

  • make two tubes for the ears and score and slip them

  • make a flat oval and add a worm to the top so it looks like a purse then score and slip those to the arms

  • use a flat piece of clay to cut out a rectangle and a oval score and slip those together for the legs then score and slip them to the body

  • make a worm and two triangles for the mouth attach the worm and then two triangles below it to the face

  • make two worms and two starts for the earnings attach them together

  • score and slip the earrings to just below the ears

  • fire

  • glaze according to the picture

  • fire

  • touch up the glaze and clear glaze

  • fire

  • glue all the pieces that fell off together

This piece was a ton of work, my kid had a lot of small details that added up. Unfortunately there were a few elements I could not add because they weren't realistic for clay, for example she wanted it to be standing, and have planets hovering by a string above it. I did have a lot of fun making this piece, I think kids creativity is so unique and it was really fun to work with. If I had to make this again I would try and attach things more securely because I had to glue a lot of things back on that fell off and the earrings went missing. My favorite part about this piece is how it is carrying little purses I think that is really cute. I hope Evie likes it!

ALEBRIJES (starfish)

  • Wedge clay

  • make a very large worm

  • hollow out the underside

  • and punch holes in it for the suction cups

  • repeat this four more times

  • make a ball and hollow out the underside

  • make dents in the hollowed out circle for where you want the legs to go

  • score and slip all the legs on to the center star

  • fire

  • paint purple with acrylic paint

I had to remake my alebrije because its leg fell off and I am really sad because when I left it to be fired it was completely in tact so I don't know what happened to it. It might have cracked while it dried. But I was super disappointed because I think it looks a lot better than the second one I made on the bottom. I think I just thinned out the legs to much and I needed to add more clay on top of the middle to give  it dimension like the first one . I did enjoy this project because I love starfish and I made it really early so I had plenty of time to re make it.

SET OF FOUR BOWLS

  • wedge clay

  • roll it into a large ball

  • press in the center to make a pinch pot

  • put it on the blue spinning stand and cut the top so its even

  • repeat three more times

  • fire

  • glaze blue

  • fire

  • add jungle gems

  • fire

  • clear glaze

  • fire

I did not love this project because it took me a lot of time and I still need to paint the jungle gems. I made a piece for my mom with the jungle gems and I really like the way it turned out so I would like to do that again. If I were to remake this project I would be more decisive with my plans and I might do plates instead so I could spend more time painting them and less time actually making them.

LIDDED BOX

  • wedge clay

  • put through slab roller

  • cut three large rectangles

  • cut two larger squares

  • lay out the rectangles as the bottom and the sides and the squares on the end score and slip them together carefully and use extra slip for the sides

  • smooth everything out on the under side too

  • make two worms score and slip them on to the squares on the side

  • put another piece of clay on the slab roller

  • measure the slab so it will fit inside the box without falling through

  • make a ball and form it into a heart

  • score and slip the heart to the top

  • fire!

  • glaze with design and clear glaze

  • fire

This piece is in the kilm right now and I am really excited to finish it and glaze it. I was inspired by one that is on the shelf near the paint brushes and I wanted to put my own spin on it with a  design and the heart. I would definitely make this piece again and I would probably make a box instead of a circle because boxes are a lot easier for me. If I did it again I might do a flower instead of a heart for the top though.

HANDLES ON A PIECE

  • get a lot of clay and wedge

  • separate one small piece to the side

  • flatten the small piece and cut a tale out of it

  • then make a small tube for the cylinder

  • with the large clay make a big pinch pot and smooth it out

  • score and slip the tail to the top of the pinch pot

  • score and slip the tube to the bottom of the mug under the tail

  • score and slip the other end of the handle to the base of the tail

  • it wasn't strong enough under the tail so I made two triangles and scored then to either side with a lot of slip

  • fire

  • glaze blue and then dark blue with designs

  • fire

  • clear glaze

I was invited to make this piece when I saw it on pinterest because it is very beachy. I go the idea for the bubbles from a different design and I am very happy with how it turned out. If I was going to make it again I would probably spend more time on it when it was sculpting it and make the tail more detailed. Overall this was a very fun piece to make even though mugs are normally very difficult.
